Everyone in Vermont is reading The Day of the Pelican, by Katherine Paterson. Everyone who's taking part in the annual Vermont Reads, that is. The story is about
a family from Kosovo who flee their home to escape persecution, and resettle in Vermont. The story is fictional, but based on a real family. Mia Begovich, the young woman whose experiences form the core of the story, will speak on being a Bosnian refugee in Vermont and on her work with the Vermont Refugee Resettlement program, at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Location: Guilford Community Church. For more information, call Laura Lewis, 802.254.4839.
